How to Rent: The Checklist for Renting in England

The Government’s How to rent guide serves as a helpful checklist for anyone searching for a house or flat to rent in England. It offers plenty of helpful advice to guide you through every step of the letting process. Your landlord or agent must give you a copy of the guide when starting or renewing your tenancy.

The guide provides you with a renting checklist and gives more detailed information on each stage of the renting process, including:

  • What to look out for before renting
  • Living in a rented home
  • What happens at the end of a tenancy
  • What to do if things go wrong

The latest version of the How to rent guide was issued by Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 1 February 2016.
