Our Client Money Protection (CMP) Scheme provides compensation to you if you are a landlord, tenant or other agency client and your Propertymark Protected agent has misappropriated your rent, deposit or other client money. As a professional body, we're raising standards in the industry and the CMP Scheme is in integral to the protection we provide. This is why it’s compulsory for all Propertymark Protected members.

How to Make an Application

To make an application for compensation please complete the Client Money Protection Scheme Application for compensation and email it to cmpapplications@propertymark.co.uk.

Details of the Scheme

Our CMP Scheme has an overall annual limit of £3,000,000, this period runs from 1 January to 31 December inclusive; in addition to the overall limit, there is a £500,000 limit per Propertymark Protected company. Payments are made on a pro-rata basis in situations where either of the aforementioned limits are breached.

In addition to the above limits, we can only compensate applicants up to £25,000 and we can't award landlord's more than three months’ rent. We define an applicant as the entity who has a business relationship with the Propertymark Protected member such as an individual, a partnership, a management association or a limit company. Please note: whether an applicant has one property or five, these limits apply.

Applications must be submitted within 12 months of notification that a misappropriation has occurred. We will endeavour to complete an application as quickly as possible but it is not always within our control. Prompt responses from applicants, together with all supporting documentation will assist the process.
