Demystifying energy efficiency for property agents

Propertymark's Policy and Campaigns Team will outline the UK Government plans and strategy for energy efficiency in the property sector and will be joined by Andrew Parkin, Chair of the Property Energy Professionals Association (PEPA) to demystify energy efficiency requirements, be that the Decent Homes Standards, Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) or an update on the specification for Energy Performance Certificates.

Energy efficiency: preparing the PRS for the future

Governments across the UK are consulting on implementing new energy efficiency standards for private rented property. Propertymark wants to see more energy–efficient homes, but new rules and requirements must be realistic and achievable.

Henry Griffith

Policy and Campaigns Officer, Propertymark

Henry joined Propertymark in April 2022 after having previously worked as the policy and research coordinator for a large Education Group. He supports members by digesting legislation and government policy to consider how this will impact the sector. On top of this, Henry currently attends and represents Propertymark at a number of government and industry working groups.   

Andy Parkin

Chair, Property Energy Professionals Association (PEPA)

Andrew has worked for Stroma Certification in various roles since 2014 and has been Managing Director for three years. He is also the current Chair of the Property Energy Professionals Association (PEPA). He has extensive experience working across the industry to champion the work and value of energy assessment, EPCs and DECs. With a background as an energy assessor, he now works across Government and with industry steering groups to drive the use of EPCs and DECs in government energy efficiency initiatives, policies and regulation.

Andrew also advises on improvements in technical documentation and standards. More recently, he has been heavily involved with the launch and development of PAS 2035, chairs the Retrofit Assessor Working Group and is an attendee of the Retrofit Coordinator Working Group and Whole House Retrofit Implementation Group. Andrew continues to push forward on the ‘Green Agenda’ and is looking to assist government with their objectives towards achieving Net Zero, Decent Homes and minimum energy efficiency standards, and to improve the methodologies used for energy assessment and retrofit. He is also keen to help the wider industry understand how energy assessment and retrofit can benefit homeowners, occupants and other key stakeholders.

Tim Thomas

Policy and Campaigns Officer, Propertymark

Tim is leading on Welsh policy for the Private Rented Sector. Prior to joining the Propertymark team, Tim amassed over fifteen years’ experience working in policy and research roles including roles with several Welsh local authorities, third sector organisations and more recently was the Campaigns and Public Affairs Officer at the National Residential Landlords Association.
