Membership grades
Student grade (N/A)
You can join at the student grade if you don't have a letting qualification—even if you're not working in the industry. You will receive a year's membership subscription and must become qualified to continue with membership. You won't be able to use the designatory letters or logo until you become qualified and upgrade your membership.
Associate grade (AARLA)
Associate grade is for those with the Level 2 lettings qualification (Level 5 for Scotland) and a minimum of one year's experience. Alternatively, you can join with a minimum of two years’ experience and you will be given two years to achieve the required qualification. You will not be able to continue with membership beyond the two years if the qualification is not achieved. All Associate grade applicants must be working in the industry when applying.
Member grade (MARLA)
Member grade is for those with the Level 3 lettings qualification (Level 6 for Scotland) and a minimum of one year's experience. All Member grade applicants must be working in the industry when applying.
Fellow grade (FARLA)
Fellow grade is the pinnacle of membership. You must have completed a relevant level 4 qualification and provide evidence that you have five years' industry experience to join at this grade. All Fellow grade applicants must be working in the industry when applying.

The annual membership subscription costs £295.00 unless you are joining at the Student grade, which costs £100.00. Once your membership has been approved, you will be sent an invoice for the fee due—you won’t be charged if for any reason your application is declined. All fees are non-refundable once an application has been approved and paid.
Secondary membership
A secondary membership is discounted to £150 per year and grants you access to even more resources whilst keeping you up to date in another discipline. The Secondary discount only applies to full memberships, i.e. Associate, Member or Fellow grade members.
Can I display the logo?
Providing you're not at the Student grade and work for a Propertymark Protected company, you can use the logo. This means that your director is in membership and their company is therefore regulated as part of their membership.
We only allow Propertymark Protected companies to display the logo to limit any uncertainties consumers may have surrounding the protection afforded to them by our members. Use the 'Find an Expert' search to see if your company is Propertymark Protected.

Can I claim tax relief on my membership fee?
Propertymark is an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) approved professional body. We are registered as either ‘Residential Letting Agents Association of’ or ‘Estate Agents National Association of’ depending on your type of membership. This means that if you are a UK taxpayer, you may be able to claim the relief on our membership.
How to claim
EMPLOYEES: If you are an employee of an organisation, then you can claim tax relief on your annual self-assessment return or via the HMRC P87 form.
If you employer pays your membership fee on your behalf, they may already have an exemption with HMRC so that you will not be taxed. Your employers could also include our fees on your annual P11D form which then you can claim on your self-assessment return.
SELF-EMPLOYED: Membership fees may be deductible as an allowable expense before you calculate your taxable profits. When you join Propertymark, or on renewal of your membership you will be provided with a receipt of payment, and this can be used as evidence to support your claim.

Agency
Sales and lettings of commercial property, including acquisitions of property on behalf of clients for both investment and occupation purposes.
Commercial property management
Rent collection and co-ordination of day to day management issues including service charge assessment/collection on behalf of commercial property landlords.
Lease renewals
Advice to both landlords and tenants regarding lease renewals, including the legal process and appropriate rental assessment.
Valuation
The valuation of all types of commercial property for a variety of purposes, including market appraisals, secured lending, capital tax purposes, matrimonial and court proceedings
Rent reviews
Advice to landlords and tenants alike regarding any rent review provisions within their leases, including procedural matters and the actual rental assessment.
Commercial surveying
Preparation of survey reports on commercial buildings, including Schedules of Condition and Schedules of Dilapidation. Just as when buying a house a survey is important, so too is a survey when either buying or taking a lease on full repairing terms of a commercial property to ascertain the state of repair of the building and potential future repairing liabilities if held on lease.

Advice to developers in respect of commercial property development or redevelopment, be it of single units or substantial sites.

The sale of trading businesses of all types, including for example nursing homes, guest houses and hotels, post offices, newsagents, fish and chip shops, fish farms and caravan parks.
Rating
Advice to owners or occupiers regarding their rating assessment; this is of particular current relevance as the new 2010 rating list has now been produced and as a result many property occupiers may be paying too much in Business Rates.
