Our Chair, Nicky Heathcote, two Presidents, Liana Loporto-Browne and Maxine Fothergill along with 25 per cent of Regional Executives and over two-thirds of Propertymark staff are female, with the majority of senior roles held by women. This shows the driving force, 67 per cent women, are helping to transform Propertymark and making strides to form its future and shape the profession.
This year's theme is #BreakTheBias, and whilst IWD is just one day, Propertymark will carry on its recognition of how key individuals have encountered and overcome bias in their careers.
Empowering women
Taking advice from those that have struggled is a valuable lesson. Propertymark asked some influencers what advice they would give their younger self or those starting a career:
Maxine Fothergill, ARLA Propertymark President
“Do it and never look back. If you’re given an opportunity, then grab it with both hands and be yourself. Believe in and have faith in your own ability and go with your gut feeling.”
Shelley Brown, Propertymark Membership Manager
“Never take the easy option, anything worth having does not come easily, so work at it and put yourself in those uncomfortable situations, what’s the worst that can happen?”
Megan Eighteen, Propertymark Regional Executive
“Don't let the weight of other people’s judgement dull your passion and enthusiasm – you do you.”
Sue Roberts-Smith, Head of Operations at Propertymark
“Take every opportunity to learn and grow and do not suffer from imposter syndrome. Take confidence in your ability and try your best, it will not always go according to plan, but resilience and commitment will shine through and make you a stronger person.”
Liana Loporto-Browne, NAEA Propertymark President
“Put yourself forward, even if you are not 100 per cent sure that you can do a job, you will rise to the challenge! It is amazing what you can accomplish if you push yourself out of your comfort zone.”
